Bacteriology, general Pathology, special Pathology and medical Parasitology. In the fifth year each student spends three months attached to the department as a Pathology clerk, and familiarises himself with the routine work carried out in the department. This is of considerable value, as all the bacteriological and serological specimens from the three University clinics in Medicine, Surgery, and Midwifery, are sent to the Pathology department for examination. In 1934 there was a paucity of post-mortems for teaching purposes. Additional post-mortem instruction has now been provided at the Victoria Mortuary, and is given by the Government Medical Officer in charge. Autopsies for the University clinical units conducted by the staff of the Pathology department are also utilised in the teaching. Each student makes a full report on the findings of twelve cases.
17. Another improvement since 1934 has been the develop- ment of the Pathological Museum. A collection of specimens has been assembled illustrating the commoner morbid conditions, and histological slides of most of the specimens are available. The whole Museum has been fully catalogued, and a printed copy of the catalogue is presented to each student. The accommodation available in the Museum is now fully occupied, and schemes for expansion should be considered.
18. One of the needs of the department is a lecture theatre; at present all the lectures have to be given in one of the labora- tories. The Medical Library is housed in part of the Pathology department, and there is no other space available for extension. During the time of my visit mention was made of extending the accommodation by adding another storey to the building.

It was suggested that each depart- ment should be provided with assistants of the status of lecturers, capable of assuming temporary charge of the department during the absence on long leave of the Professors. It has not been feasible to adopt this recommendation for lack of funds, though each department has been provided with an Assistant to the Professor, not of the status of Lecturer.
